Hiding computer algebra in dedicated softwares: a project

Francois Boulier (Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille Laboratoire d'Informatique Fondamentale de Lille (LIFL))

In this talk, I am going to describe a joint project of a Computer Algebra research team (mine) and an Applied Maths one, in relation with researchers in biology. The project aims at producing a (free) software dedicated to the structural identifiability and the identification problems for compartimental models (a class of models common for modelling biological processes). The software is going to be built on the top of a (free) C library, that I wrote, which involves functions for symbolically manipulating systems of polynomial differential equations (differential elimination algorithms). Some of the interfaces we are going to provide will completely hide the symbolic manipulations to the user.
